About
Hi! I’m Leah, the founder of FlowerHouse. I decided to DIY my flowers using an online ordering service for my wedding in 2022. It was a disaster.
Turns out the 400 hours I had spent watching YouTube tutorials and practicing with grocery store flowers didn’t help when weather delays meant my flowers spent 24 hours molding in an airport hangar and arrived a day late (while I was already hanging on by a thread with all the wedding stress). A few meltdowns, visits to every Trader Joe’s in the city, and unhelpful customer service calls later, we managed to make it work — but I knew there had to be a better way for couples who just can’t afford the sky-high floral price tags of our high cost of living area.
The upside of my debacle: I discovered my passion for floral design. In the years since, I’ve worked as a freelance designer at one of DC’s premier florists, managed my own events as an indendent florist, and worked as a studio assistant and shopkeeper learning what it takes behind the scenes like disinfecting buckets to keep flowers healthy and prepping vessels to ensure arrangements are structurally sound.
From all this, FlowerHouse was born. I’ve spent countless hours learning the ins and outs of the floral trade, and thinking about how to make them accessible to novices, so that you don’t have to. I am honest, and I’ll tell you this: FlowerHouse isn’t the cheapest option, and it won’t give you the professional artistry of a full-service florist — but I truly believe we offer the best bang for your buck on the market.
I also believe building your wedding flowers with your friends and loved ones can be an absolute highlight of your wedding weekend, and I would love for us to make that happen for you. Flowers shouldn’t be stressful, financially or emotionally, and we’ll make sure they aren’t.
So, let’s chat and see if FlowerHouse is right for your wedding.
